The defining aspects of any form are contained in the various details of its composition. While I seek to design objects that are quite simple and elegant, I pay particular attention to the subtleties of little details.
The definition of an edge to feel a certain way or to reveal a shadow or reflect light adds immeasurably to the character of a piece. I immensely enjoy the opportunity provided by a drawer or door pull to embellish and refine an otherwise ordinary form. The use of a sharp knife or chisel brings up certain visual and tactile qualites that can be achieved no other way. This "detailing" is the part of the process I love the most. Inlays, raised or relieved carvings, hammered copper, stone insets ~ all of these find their way into my work at one time or another. These details are what elevate a piece above the mundane and transform it into art.
